"MBA Math was definitely a lot more effective than the books I bought over the
summer but never quite got around to reading, and the reason is that MBA Math
is structured in a way that makes it easy and effective to learn
independently."
- Peter P., HBS '08
"I feel far more confident entering such a quant-heavy program after having
worked my way through the MBA Math course. It is excellent, and entirely
understandable even to someone who had not seen many of the concepts presented
since high school.
- J., Booth (Chicago) '09
"MBA Math was instrumental in positioning me for success at business school and
helping reduce a lot of the first semester anxieties that are common to first
year students."
- Hugo L., Rotman (Toronto) '08

Congratulations, you got in! But are you ready?
Are you
nervous
about studying
corporate finance
alongside Wall Street financial analysts?
Are you
clueless
about
accounting, not knowing a
debit
from a
credit
or a
balance sheet
from an
income statement?
Are you
worried
that your
Excel spreadsheet skills
are weak?
Do you
fear
the prospect of late nights keeping up with
statistics
and
microeconomics?

Whether you have good reason to be worried or you just want to get your math
and spreadsheet skills back in shape,
MBA Math can help.
The more you know about the first year of business school, the more you will
appreciate the value of arriving with a solid math and spreadsheet foundation.
Many math-challenged students who struggle during the first year report that
the typical summer reading package is too passive and gives a false sense of
security. Taking a math course over the summer is not always feasible and may
not be MBA oriented. And participating in an on-campus course just before
first-year orientation does not give all students sufficient time to
absorb the material
and to
follow up with appropriate self-learning.
|
A huge difference exists between "knowing about" finance, accounting,
economics, statistics, and spreadsheets and "knowing how" to crank out correct
answers efficiently.
|
Eight years' experience teaching a one-week, pre-orientation math camp at Tuck
(and more recently at Johnson) prompted me to create the online MBA Math
course. Some of
you need an earlier start
than the week before first year orientation, and the
opportunity to move through the material at your own
pace, multiple times if necessary.
The focus at MBA Math is on the basics, making
efficient use of your time. With the greater confidence of a firmer
quantitative foundation, you should be in a better position to take on the
formidable challenges of the first-year MBA quantitative core.
What distinguishes MBA Math?
-
MBA focused:
MBA Math is focused on the needs of incoming students at
top MBA programs.
-
Time efficient:
You don't need a full pre-MBA course in finance, accounting, economics,
statistics, or spreadsheets. Sure, that wouldn't hurt. But if your time is
limited (and whose isn't?) you can get yourself in MBA Math shape by
mastering basic concepts and skills
in each MBA Math subject. The goal is to be ready to start your first-year core
MBA courses, not to have already taken them.
-
Convenient:
MBA Math has no fixed class times or deadlines. You
work at your own pace, according to your
particular needs, making use of the teaching materials as you wish.
